🔧What you’ll do: Lead a team of mechanics at a high level of performance, supervising daily activities of vehicle repair and maintenance and get your hands dirty yourself.

  • 🛢️5 years experience working within a diesel maintenance shop. At least a year in a supervisory role
  • 🖥️Part purchasing and inventory know-how

  • 🇺🇸Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • 💽Advanced knowledge of automotive diagnostics, repair and maintenance process
  • 💪Able to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts
  • 🗣️The ability to communicate with people
  • 🧘 Be able to maintain emotional control in stressful conditions

Extra Qualifications that will give you a leg up on other candidates

  • Class A or B CDL

Job Title: Shop Foreman

Reports to: Chief Operations Officer 

Primary Purpose: Supervise daily activities of vehicle repair and maintenance operation to ensure proper performance, repair and safety of all Adams Sanitation Vehicles.

Qualifications: Must possess and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record. Must possess at least 5 years of Experience working within a diesel maintenance shop.Must have experience with vehicle part purchasing and part inventory.Must have Previous Supervisor Experience with a Fleet or Maintenance Field. Class A or B CDL strongly preferred.

Special Knowledge/Skills: Must possess strong leadership and supervisory skills and excellent work habits. Advanced knowledge of automotive diagnostics, repair and maintenance processes. Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations. Direct, supervise and work in concert with Shop MechanicCoordinate all vehicle repairs, fueling 

Experience: At least five years experience in diesel truck repair. One year supervisory experience. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

1. Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles.

2. Provide guidance and direction to all staff members assigned to Fleet Maintenance

3. Prioritize work order and assign appropriate shop staff.

4. Maintains vehicle records and repair data in the districts fleet management software program.

5. Responsible for the procurement of goods and services in compliance with district purchasing guidelines.

6. Recommends all contract vehicle repairs.

7. Assist with the development of the department’s annual budget.

8. Responsible for inventory records of supplies and parts.

9. Responsible for the professional development of all shop staff members

10. Attend all in-service training classes and professional development as required by the district and/or transportation department.

11. Practice safe work habits and use personal protective equipment as required.

12. Submit to Drug and Alcohol Testing as required by Board Policy and Federal Law. 

13. Manage DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Compliance Program. 

14. Routinely inspect all shop equipment and work area to maintain a safe environment for our employees.

15. Assist Chief Operations Officer to implement shop procedures and policies through positive example, and instruction to others.

16. Manage mechanic duty times .

17.Works closely with Field Supervisors to ensure fleet vehicles are available for route and trip coverage.

18. Respond to breakdowns and/or accidents in a timely manner.

19. Inspect work performed by mechanics in overhaul and repair of district automotive equipment.

20. Review and approve completed work orders.

21. Perform state safety inspections for DOT Compliance.

22. Establish and maintain vehicle preventive maintenance schedules

23. Assist with new driver training initiatives.

24.Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.

25. Performs other duties as assigned.

Inventory and Equipment 

1.Maintain shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.

2.Order equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records.

3.Recommend replacement of existing equipment.

4.Conduct annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.

5.Supervise cleaning of buses by washing crew.

6.Direct the upkeep and appearance of shop and parking lot area.

7.Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate employees assigned to fleet maintenance including: Mechanics, etc.Equipment Used: Small hand tools, drills, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, torch, jack, lift equipment, vehicle diagnostic, repair equipment, personal computer, fax machine, phone, and copier. Physical Demands: Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting, carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.; routinely lift and carry parts and equipment 15-75 pounds; possess manual dexterity to complete projects in a craftsman fashion. Environment: Work around moving objects or vehicles; fumes, solvents, grease and oil. May work under conditions of inclement weather.
